We had a great flower design workshop at The Huntington Library on Saturday. Our students continue to impress us each month. The above design consisted of a two new roses for the cut-flower industry. The full-looking rose is called "Peach Finess" and the ivory-looking rose is called "Peach Avalanche." Both lovely. I got up at 3 a.m. to see the Royal Wedding today between Prince William and Catherine Middleton. She was beautiful in her elegant gown that reminded my of the late Princess Grace of Monaco and he was so handsome. The purple carns were for a mock up for a bride who is open to carnations.  This variety is perfect for her theme with the purple front, white trim and back of the petals. I wanted to bring them home and see how they did in a vase. I am happy to report that the nasturtium (pictured above) lasted well over a week in my little vase. You can grow these pretty flowers from seed that have leaves that look like lily pads out of water. The blooms are edible too and taste really spicy.

One of the quintessential holiday flowers is the Poinsettia. Originally from Mexico, this gorgeous plant works well as a cut flower in arrangements, too. Here is a cute idea for holiday decorations. You can make this yourself and feature this collection of mini Christmas trees indoors or outside. I purchased three "Euro Trees" from Trader Joes for $2.99 each. Then I placed them into a long rectangular wooden container. I covered the tops of the potted plants with Sheet moss - securing the moss with florist's moss pins. This chuppah was made for the beach inspired by one that the bride liked in a magazine. So we put it together with some 8-foot bamboo poles. Casey sewed the chuppah's "canopy" that symbolizes the "roof" of the home that the couple will build together.
