Here is a boxwood wreath our Mom made for her home in Virginia. She first covered a wire wreath form with wet sphagnum moss, stuck branches of boxwood into the moss until ti was covered, then added some various evergreen branches from around the yard before adorning with a pretty bow and attaching it to the front door.  Last Sunday, I attended an all-day Christmas floral workshop at René van Rems in Vista, CA. Cut Poinsettia stems exude a milky sap in the water. We like to remove all the foliage that will be below the water line in the vase, give the stem a sharp angled cut and place it in a vase of cool water. I got up at 3 a.m. to see the Royal Wedding today between Prince William and Catherine Middleton. She was beautiful in her elegant gown that reminded my of the late Princess Grace of Monaco and he was so handsome. Take this interesting idea for your next Easter flower arrangement. Add new potatoes in yellow and pink to mimic the look of eggs in the basket along with the fresh flowers. Trader Joe's Flowers - We talk about them a lot, so I popped in yesterday to take a peek and found one bunch of Glads...super fresh, green and pink (6 of each) for $5.99!!! 12 stems for $6. This arrangement was a combo of two events. The purple carns were for a mock up for a bride who is open to carnations. This variety is perfect for her theme with the purple front, white trim and back of the petals. Happy First Day of Summer. Summer days are often spent making and drinking lemonade. So we made this fun slice of summer to bring in the season. We've done a lot of beachy weddings this summer all over the coast from Point Loma to Santa Barbara. This chuppah was made for the beach inspired by one that the bride liked in a magazine. So we put it together with some 8-foot bamboo poles. Casey sewed the chuppah's "canopy" that symbolizes the "roof" of the home that the couple will build together. We teach our floral design students that their local farmers market is a great source for fresh flowers. Right now, locally grown flowers are abundant, affordable and beautiful! If you buy near the close of the market, you might score some deals, too.
